EPFL’s Campuses Energy Commission (CECOM) has prepared a number of continuity plans that will take effect on all our campuses if the Swiss Federal Council triggers the OSTRAL plan and implements energy-saving measures. These continuity plans were developed in consultation with representatives of EPFL’s schools and departments.

CECOM came up with a range of scenarios involving EPFL and the general public in the event the energy-savings measures are activated. It has identified which areas of our School could be affected in particular. Each of these areas is under the responsibility of one CECOM member, who has provided actual or estimated energy-use figures for that area. These individuals have also noted which facilities and equipment cannot be turned off.

Four energy-saving scenarios were developed in which energy use is reduced by 10%, 20%, 33% or 50%, showing how EPFL would operate in each case.
